General Information

Little Dix Bay is a garden with a focus on ultimate privacy for its fiercely dedicated clientele.  Set around a crescent-shaped bay and protected by a coral reef, Little Dix Bay is an idyllic setting for an active or relaxing vacation.

History

Virgin Gorda was named in 1493 by Columbus, who saw in the islands that now frame Little Dix Bay the silhouette of a portly woman lying on her back - Virgin Gorda translates to Fat Virgin.  The island was a fairly desolate agricultural community when Laurance S. Rockefeller established the resort.  Planning and land acquisition began in 1958 and the resort opened in 1964.  A believer in hiring and training local people to proudly serve the island, Mr Rockefeller discovered a friendly, highly motivated work force among the residents of Virgin Gorda.  With an employee-guest ratio of three to one, Virgin Gordians still graciously serve guests today at Little Dix Bay.

Location

Little Dix Bay is located in Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands only 5 minutes from Virgin Gorda Airport and half a mile from the Virgin Gorda Yacht Hatbour. Puerto Rico is 90 miles east and St Thomas 26 miles north-east. Just off the Francis Drake Channel, the hotel can be reached from San Juan, St Thomas or Tortola.

All visitors need a valid  passport.

Food & Beverages

The Pavilion - a distinctive structure due to its four signature conical shingled roofs and all of the tables have a tremendous view of the Caribbean Sea.  Under the Pavilion, the dining is distinctive as well.  Executive Chef Benoit Pepin serves a popular daily breakfast and lunch buffet and candlelight dinner.  Menu highlights include international favorites with island flavors and Caribbean specialties with a French flair.  Cocktails are served.

The Beach Grill - an open air dining facility situated directly adjacent to the water activities desk and a few stone steps from the beach.  During the day, guests can order light lunches, fruit plates and cooling beverages and in the evening, an attractive menu serving grilled selections and innovative salads are available.  The Beach Grill specializes in fresh seafood including the legendary local lobster.  Evenings are highlighted with tiki torches tucked into the beachfront, creating a romantic glow.

Bar:

An afternoon tea, complete with English scones and clotted cream, is served near the Wallaba-shingled bar under the Pavilion.
