Vale do Lobo was the first development in the Algarve. It was
founded in 1962 by Trusthouse Forte PLC and Costain PLC, both well-known multi
nationals.
At that time the Algarve was mainly inhabited by farmers and fishermen. It was
only after the establishment of Vale do Lobo, its five star Meridien Hotel Dona
Filipa and the first golf course, that Faro Airport was opened.
Whilst looking for a holiday home, Mr Sander van Gelder, a Dutch entrepreneur,
discovered Vale do Lobo, saw its potential and took over Vale do Lobo in 1977.
As the new proprietor, his vision has helped develop the resort into a unique
haven. Vale do Lobo is approximately three times the size of the Principality of
Monaco. Residents and visitors are attracted by the resort's self-contained
community together with its range of exclusive properties and excellent
facilities and services.
With continuing investment and improvement over the years, Vale do Lobo, has
maintained its position as one of the foremost luxury resorts in Europe. It is
now the largest luxury resort in Portugal.
Vale do Lobo is located on Portugal's central Algarve coastline,
an unspoilt area with year round sun and a rich local history. The resort is
located just 20 minutes drive from Faro International Airport, which is
accessible from most major European cities in less than 3 hours. Lisbon, the
Portuguese capital city, and Spanish city of Seville are around 2.5 hours drive
away.
La Place
La Place offers gourmet French cuisine in elegant surroundings with stunning
views of the ocean from most tables.
It is run by Moroccan-born chef, Maurice Belhaj and his wife Fatima, whose
former restaurant in Paris became so popular it was reported in the
international press and the Michelin Good Food Guide.
The menu offers a range of starters, meat and fish dishes and delicious desserts
in traditional French style. The menu changes every two months and is backed by
a good wine list of both French and Portuguese labels.
Teahouse Oriental
A new concept of Oriental Cuisine makes this restaurant an unforgettable
experience not only in taste but also for its exceptional service.
An eclectic menu features the best culinary dishes from Japan, Thailand,
Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Vietnam, emphasizing the speciality of its
preparation.
The décor is simple and elegant and the restaurant enjoys a large outdoor
terrace with wonderful sea views.
Spikes Restaurant
Spikes restaurant offers an exquisite eating experience in the heart of the
resort. The interior is elegant and the tall glass windows enable diners to
enjoy fantastic views of the putting greens and sculpture park. The modern
European menu is creatively presented and the service is attentive yet discreet.
Classics include Duck Breast Salad with foie gras and Roasted Lamb Carré with
spinach gratin. Spike’s desserts should definitely not be missed, especially the
legendary Apple and Blueberry Crumble with vanilla ice-cream.
Ken Lo's Memories Of China
Ken Lo, author of over 30 books on Chinese cuisine, is the main founder of
“Ken Lo’s Memories of China” restaurants and the “Cookery School” in London.
After his enormous success in London, he inaugurated a new branch of his
restaurant in Vale do Lobo.
The restaurant offers a refined and relaxing ambience and includes a magnificent
terrace that is used all throughout the summer season.
The menu is diverse, providing a fine selection of dishes for every palate.
For fans of Chinese cuisine or for those who wish to discover a taste for these
delectable delights, this restaurant is a necessary destination
Sandbanks
Sandbanks is a new addition to Vale do Lobo’s impressive collection of
restaurants and is located in front of the beach, enjoying spectacular views. In
the kitchen the London-trained chefs create traditional and contemporary
European cuisine with stylish presentation.
The menu includes a range of shellfish and a good selection of fresh fish
including sardines grilled on charcoal. Sandbanks classics include Roasted
Monkfish wrapped in bacon and a delicious Goat Cheese Tart. The dessert menu
will not disappoint either with delicious treats such as Chocolate Marquis,
Summer Pudding served with fresh cream, and Sticky Pudding with toffee sauce.

Monty's Restaurant and Bar
Monty’s offers stylish food and drink in an informal atmosphere. The décor is
modern and the live music provides a relaxed setting for diners to enjoy the
restaurant’s excellent selection of modern European cuisine. Classic dishes
include Cumberland Sausages and Mash (sausages are specially imported from the
UK), traditional British Fish and Chips with mushy peas, and a choice of steak
and meat dishes. Healthier options include Tempura Prawns and Seared Tuna with
lime and chilli salsa.
Later on in the evening, Monty’s is transformed into a late night music and
entertainment bar which has now become one of the most popular night spots along
the Algarve.
La Terrazza
This stylish restaurant serves Italian cuisine in elegant, attractively lit
surroundings.
The stylishly designed interior is ideal for intimate dining while an outside
spacious terrace provides the perfect setting for families, especially in
Summer. The menu offers an excellent range of pizza and pasta dishes as well as
meat and fish cooked to original Italian recipes with home made ingredients.
There is a special daily dish and customers can see the chefs at work in the
open plan kitchen
Papagaio
Papagaio Beach Restaurant enjoys a perfect location overlooking the beautiful
Vale do Lobo Beach. Delicious fresh fish and seafood is available ranging from
fresh sole to crab and lobster. A wide range of salads and light bites including
melts and burgers are served throughout the day for those who want to stop for a
snack between sunbathing.
La Crêperie
Delicious crêpes, snacks, light meals and salads, available all day at this
modern café, attractively located in the centre of the Praça. Inside and outside
seating available as well as a sun deck for those wanting to catch a few rays.
Beach Club
The Beach Club enjoys an exceptional location right on the Vale do Lobo beach
and offers a range of typical bar snacks, a daily choice of fresh fish and
delicious grilled prawns. This tranquil setting transforms to a lively venue in
the evening with a great atmosphere and is very popular with the youngsters.
The bar is open through to the early hours with a DJ spinning the latest tunes
Tennis Café - Restaurant
The Tennis Café – restaurant and bar is located in the Academy’s club house
and boasts a large terrace which overlooks the tennis courts and swimming pool.
The menu offers a selection of healthy dishes and fresh juices to provide the
perfect refreshment after a hard fought match. Specialties include their famous
Match Point Pasta and expertly grilled steaks
Café Royal
Café Royal, also known as the Halfway House, is situated overlooking the
picturesque 9th hole of the Royal Golf Course and offers the perfect place for
golfers to take a break for some well earned refreshments. However not
surprisingly, due to its beautiful location, the café also attracts visitors
wishing simply to admire the stunning views and enjoy the peaceful setting. The
café offers a range of delicious baguettes, sandwiches and savories, as well as
a selection of soft drinks, beers and spirits
Café Crème
Café Crème is the ideal place to relax and socialize after a visit to Vale do
Lobo Shopping. This modern café is situated in an attractive setting, adjacent
to the Resort Reception and the seating is shaded by a beautiful white parasol
style awning. Café Crème offers a range of hot and cold drinks as well as a
selection of quality snacks, savories and cakes.
Fitness Centre
Beside the Royal Spa is the state of the Vale do Lobo Fitness Centre, one of
the most modern gyms in the Algarve, fitted out with the best and most
up-to-date Techno gym equipment and overlooking the beautiful gardens of Parque
do Golfe.
Top-of-the range equipment
Bikes, Stairmasters, rowing machines and treadmills are included in the aerobic
equipment – all new models, low impact, better for the joints. All the usual
weights machines are available, as well as equipment new to the market such as a
‘radiant’ – a new type of complete body workout machine, the first to arrive in
the Algarve – and a ‘Power Plate’ – a vibrating plate which provides resistance
training by evenly distributing vibrations throughout the body, and works out
all parts of the body very effectively.
Personal training
Managers Elisabeth Leal and Valter Luz are always on hand to instruct members in
getting the best benefits from the machines. A fully qualified physiotherapist
and personal trainer respectively, their specialty is in working out combined
programmes where different types of exercise complement each other and best fit
each member’s needs. At the Fitness Centre, there is always a qualified trainer
on hand to help and advise clients. Elisabeth also provides rehabilitation
treatments and treats a wide range of injuries.
A weekly schedule of exercise classes such as pilates, spinning and fit-ball
take place – timings are available direct from the Fitness Centre. Private,
tailored fitness sessions are also available, as described in the Royal Spa
treatment list. The Fitness Centre also offers first aid and CPR training on
request.
Tennis & Other Sports
Vale do Lobo prides itself in offering the most extensive range of sporting
and leisure facilities in the Algarve, with something for everyone to enjoy. For
the active, 25 different sports are available around the resort for visitors to
enjoy
The resort is also home to the largest tennis facility in Portugal. With 10
all-weather courts, four synthetic courts and further courts planned, the Tennis
Academy attracts several national and international tennis fixtures throughout

including a variety of water sports which take place along the resort's two
kilometers of golden beach such as sailing, wind-surfing, water-skiing and jet
skiing.
As well as two championship golf courses and Portugal's largest tennis

mini-golf, volleyball, pilates, aerobics and dedicated sports fields for
