The Locanda del Sant’Uffizio, an ancient building that preserves all the
atmosphere of its sixteenth-century origins as a monastic dwelling, is a
charming relais. Nestled in the heart of Monferrato, a hilly area famous for its
wines and cuisine, and surrounded by carefully-tended vineyards immersed in
contemplative silences, the Locanda del Sant’Uffizio enraptures guests from the
moment of their arrival with the particularity of its timeless atmosphere, far
removed from the bustle of the city. Set in a centuries-old estate and
overlooking an enchanting manicured Italianate garden and a magnificent
panoramic swimming pool, it is a magical place for an unforgettable stay.
Amidst the sweet hills adorned with forests and vineyards, in what can be
termed the genuine heart of Piedmont, stands the “Locanda del Sant’Uffizio.”
A short distance from Alba and Asti, in the green silent scenario of a majestic
countryside, the “Locanda del Sant’uffizio” evokes 16th century
atmospheres, when the area housed the monastery and cultivated fields of the
tribunal of the inquisition.
The Locanda del Sant’Uffizio restaurant
The “Locanda del Sant’uffizio” has always attracted discerning,
refined tourists, and it is known to international gourmets for the
extraordinary dishes produced by revisiting with skill the preparations of
traditional Piedmont cuisine: located in the very heart of the truffle region,
the inn also offers a prestigious selection of first-rate wine qualities that
are typical of this area.
And the Locanda’s history has influenced this
restoration - the wine production, that was a prerogative of the estate, has
been taken up once again.
In fact, the surrounding fields and vineyards are now under cultivation, and,
with collaboration of the BAVA cellars at Cocconato d’Asti, THI can now offer
its guests its “own” vintage, a worthy peer of other famous labels, the Barbera
d’Asti Podere del Sant’Uffizio, a delightful wine.
The Bar
Climbing up the red bricks of the main facade, a magnificent ancient plant
provides shade for the little wrought-iron tables, arranged among lemon and
orange trees in their great pots... An enchanting corner of paradise for
refreshing, appetizing breaks during the warm summer days, and in the evening,
to the glow of flickering candles, a romantic spot for sharing an aperitif.
In the winter, the unique pleasure of a cosy room warmed by a crackling
fireplace, for sipping a cup of hot chocolate in the afternoon or savouring the
full flavour of a cognac during the evening.
Serene elegance, splendid period furniture and frescoes are found in the
Locanda’s 40 rooms and suites, recently remodeled and equipped with the latest
in conveniences, including satellite TV, Internet connection, safe and
mini-fridge.
