Welcome to the Excelsior Palace Hotel, in Rapallo

The unique setting of the Excelsior Palace Hotel, facing the bay of Rapallo to the est and the headland of Portofino to the west, has inspired a return to the elegance of the early 1900s, when the international beau monde gathered here. History

Its history begins in January 1901 , when on the Ciappadea Cliff behind Rapallo's Kursaal, the New Casino opened its doors for the first time; later called  Excelsior Palace constructed following plans drawn up by Architect Verrey from Lausanne. In 1914 one of the first films with external shooting was filmed here. It was the "Birth of a Ship", interpreted and directed by Gian Paolo Rosmarino a notable figure in the history of Italian Cinema. Even though the Casino was transfered to San Remo,in1928, the Excelsior remained High Society's favorite spot.

The Excelsior Palace Hotel is situated on the spectacular Portofino coast with two magnificent views, overlooking the Gulf of Rapallo and Gulf of Portofino.

The Lord Byron Restaurant, with its light-filled windows overlooking the Gulf of Tigullio, is famous for its regional and Mediterranean cuisine.

Open from June to September, the Eden Roc Restaurant, sitting sheer above the sea, is the coast's most exclusive restaurant for romantic candlelit dinners.

The Yachting Bar: a marine atmosphere, with warm woods and lots of “sea-dog” memorabilia. A youthful setting for the pleasure of a cocktail and the cheerful cordiality of an after-dinner drink. In summer an aperitif takes on added appeal served at little green wrought-iron tables on the terrace so that guests can enjoy the heady fragrance of the sea and the glow of a romantic sunset. The Beach Club Surrounded by waves, girded in an embrace that smells of wind and sea, the hours spent on the deck-chairs and recliners of the Excelsior Palace Beach Club flit idly by, far removed from any stress. At guests’ disposal also roomy cabanas, bar service, and a panoramic pool that seems suspended above the crystalline depths of the Gulf of Tigullio.

The Fitness Room In the early morning and late afternoon, gentle sea breezes cool the air and you can do your dreaming on the saddle of an exercise bike or running on a treadmill. When the view leaves you breathless a workout seems to take less effort, making it easier to get back into shape.

The Health Club For lovers of the water at all hours of the day, for those who can’t do without a swim even in wintertime, or those who simply want to take part in aquagym courses, the heated indoor swimming pool is a must. A sauna and a Turkish bath round out the fitness programme.

Junior Suites

All the Junior Suites of the Excelsior Palace Hotel have a spacious bow window to afford guests a sweeping view over the sea and the Gulf of Portofino; their main characteristic is that there’s no separation between the large bedroom and the sitting room, carpet or parquet pavement, pastel colours.

Most of the Junior Suites are connecting with either a Deluxe or a Superior Double Room.

Classic Suites

All the luxurious Suites of Rapallo’s Excelsior Palace Hotel enjoy privileged positions, with a lovely view of the Gulf of Portofino. Terraces or furnished balconies make a stay in this luxury five-star truly one of a kind. The elegant decoration of the interiors varies from the blue tones of the sea to the green of Ligurian olive trees. All the Suites are very roomy, divided between a spacious bedroom and a bright living area. Most of the Suites are connecting with either a Deluxe or a Superior Double Room.

Presidential Suite

130 m2 + 150 m2 of terrace.

Located on the seventh and top floor, with a superb view of the sea, the fascinating Presidential Suite features exquisitely elegant furnishings, enhanced by delicate shades of blue. The large, elegant living room, with a desk corner, opens onto a spacious terrace, spectacular with its sweeping panorama from the Bay of Rapallo and its famed tourist harbour to the Portofino lighthouse, for a total view of the Gulf. The terrace, equipped with awnings, recliners, sofas and armchairs, is perfect for celebrating special occasions or simply relaxing in total privacy, in tune with the style of refined, discreet elegance that is a hallmark of the Excelsior Palace Hotel, the only 5-star hotel on this famed section of coast. Inside the Suite, in addition to the living room, a large bedroom, two cloakrooms, parquet floor, air-conditioning, four direct dial phones, private safety box, two T.V.s with satellite channels, pay TV, VRC, stereo, minibar and open bar.
